History of Manital

Founded in Vobarno in 1990 by Luigi Bigoloni, a young entrepreneur from Brescia, Manital immediately took a lead position in the handle-manufacturing sector thanks to a new philosophy that makes passion for design and love of even the smallest details a winning strategy.

A secret ingredient of the company’s success is its capacity to adapt its innovative style, cultivated according to the principles of elegance and the technical specifications of different countries, thus catering for a range of requirements and needs.

Foreign markets have enthusiastically welcomed Manital products every since the firm began production, and in fact exports account for about 80% of the total turnover: the UK and Spain in particular seem to appreciate the innovative design of the company’s handles and give a decisive boost to the market that has taken the Brescia company to its current heights.

Today, Manital exports its products to four different continents and regularly sells in 66 different countries.

A crucial part in this“Made in Italy”success story is played by the close cooperation which the company enjoys with leading Italian and foreign designers.

Over the years in fact, Manital products have been influenced by the tastes and technical skills of various professionals, such as Davide Mercatali, with whom, in 1991 Manital launched the successful modelsLunaandLevaand in 1993 the handlesFlyandBohème; the modelsOrchideaandVeronicaon the other hand were created by Studio Manital in 1992.

TheLe Mansmodel was designed by Dorina Camusso in 1994 while theDaytonamodel is the work of Simon Quick; 1994 was also the year in which Manital made heavy investments in developing a new coating plant, which enabled the company to further upgrade the quality finish of its products.

Collaboration with the firm of Maurizio Giordano and Roberto Grossi began in 1995. Over the years, they were asked to designed 12 handles, including theGiadamodel. In that same year, thePetrahandle was launched, designed by Valentina Downey.

1996 on the other hand was the year that many production processes were automated thanks to the introduction of a robotized brushing system combined with a semi-automatic assembly procedure. The warehousing phase was also subsequently speeded up thanks to the installation of a computerised system...a series of solutions that enable Manital to cut handle production times, without however losing anything in terms of product quality.

The award-winningAmletohandle appeared in 2003, the upshot of the excellent design skills of the firm Sottsass Associati, but numerous other designers have also contributed to the growth and expansion of the company over the years - Mauro Artusio, Tita Cusatelli, Itamar Harari, Mario Mazer, Paolo Pedrizzetti and Studio Hotlab.

2009 was the year a new handle concept came to the fore; this sees handles as a high-ranking furnishing item and employs precious materials like leather or Swarovski crystal, both integrated in the modelsPolarisandSlim.

Quality and style thus continue to combine with a desire to experiment and innovate, and enable Manital to maintain its lead position…..Always one step ahead!

Not only, by focusing on excellence and differentiation, the company has built up a philosophy whereby the Eurispes has included it among the one hundred success stories of the Italy system.
